Intern Class of 2019: Jake Butler

Jake is an undergraduate Student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, majoring in Sustainable Community Development on track to receive a Masters in Regional Planning. He is a member of the Sustainable Community Development Student Organization on campus, an organization that includes community service in Northampton, MA such as trash removal, clearing pathways, and removing invasive species. He enjoys hiking, maps/geography, going to the Jersey Shore, visiting National parks, snow skiing, and road trips.

“I applied to intern at The Land Conservancy because I love the outdoors, and this organization promotes the importance of land preservation and spending time outside,” said Jake.
During his time at The Land Conservancy, Jake has put together a video in honor of our president David Epstein’s 25th Anniversary, is planning the Land Conservancy’s first Enviro Day, and visits the Community Garden to evaluate what work needs to be done.
“I hope to complete my undergraduate and graduate careers at UMASS, and to one day work in the field of transportation planning, possibly on a state level. I want to bring all that I have learned about sustainability and apply it towards my future career.”
