A 116-acre tract of land in Vernon Township, NJ, was generously donated to The Land Conservancy of New Jersey by Mariner’s Bank of Edgewater, NJ.

This beautiful woodland property lies in the Highlands Preservation Area and is forested with mostly deciduous hardwoods and dotted with granite outcrops and glacial erratics, and minimal wetlands.  Open to the public for hiking, it’s an ideal place to spot bird and wildlife species. However, motorized vehicles are strictly prohibited.

After completing a Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) sale to the New Jersey Highlands Council, Mariner’s Bank donated the remaining interests in the property to The Conservancy for conservation purposes.

The land is surrounded by 35,000 acres of Pequannock Watershed lands owned by the City of Newark, which supply drinking water to more than 50,000 residents of Newark and surrounding suburbs.
